Herbal Apple Cider

Herbal Apple Cider…simple to make, with endless creative opportunities! Basically a mulled cider but with all the nourishing benefits of herbal medicine:

  • Ingredients:

  • 2 cups apple cider or apple juice

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • A few cloves and star anise

  • 1 pinch of nutmeg

  • A few pieces of chopped dried licorice root and/or astragalus root

  • 1 orange peel or dried orange peels

  • 2 Tablespoons chamomile flowers

  • A bit of chopped fresh ginger


  1. Add the cider, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, orange peel and roots to a pot.

  2. Cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes - do not boil!

  3. Remove from the stove and add the chamomile flowers and ginger. Stir gently.

  4. Replace the lid and continue to steep the herbs for about 5 minutes.

  5. Strain and ENJOY!

Making your own dried blend is a wonderful gift to give loved ones - place whichever dried herbs and spices you’d like to add into small muslin bags, and place them all in a pretty jar.
